Shamana Yoga Teacher Training offers a transformative process for those who seek to become a Yoga teacher and/or seek to develop deeper awareness and self-healing powers, through personal experience and self-reflection in a nourishing, supportive environment. Whether or not you wish to teach, this holistic program will benefit you. The training is held in our beautiful retreat center overlooking the magical Lake Atitlán in Guatemala.

Yoga Modules
Shamana Yoga teacher training is a systematic approach to develop one’s abilities from beginners to advanced, refining and synthesizing over time one’s whole being from gross to subtle.
Our training offers 3 Yoga Modules, each one an initiation stage on the spiritual path:

What you will learn and experience in Level 1…
Yoga Anatomy: how to preform each posture, their modifications, variations, applied anatomy, alignment, health benefits and psychic effects.
Learning the Art of Teaching: from personal practice to teaching a group: sequencing, hands-on adjustments, contraindications, verbal cues, and assists.
Feedback on practical application of theory & practice (Practicums)
Mind Management: training the mind through various of relaxation and meditation techniques from yogic and eastern traditions.
Living Yogic Lifestyle: by integrating theory and practice throughout the residential training, with daily routine, yogic diet, sadhana, satsang (in person teaching), sangha (community), devotion and selfless service.
Learn and experience Yogic and Ayurvedic detox.
Evolve through the Chakras: exploring the chakra system in theory and practice while expanding awareness and releasing dormant energy through the stimulation, purification and opening of the energy centers: activation, opening, removing blocks and improving the flow of Prana within your body.
Unique in depth immersion module of Ayurveda: understand your unique constitution for ultimate well-being and how to apply Yoga and Ayurveda together (Yoga therapy) for self and collective healing.

The main focus of Gurukuls is on imparting learning to the students in natural surroundings, which focuses on applied knowledge that prepares the students in all fields of life. The essential teachings embark through group discussions, self-learning and teacher presence. While the students live with each other with brotherhood, humanity, love, and discipline.

I’m a mother, a wife, a business owner, a certified doula, and a dedicated yoga practitioner and teacher for 20 years.
Having undergone extensive training under various esteemed instructors in both India and Israel, I am honored to share my profound knowledge and practice with a particular focus on empowering women.
Presently, I specialize in offering a deeply immersive practice designed to facilitate a reconnection with the body, foster breath awareness, and promote nervous system regulation.

Michelle Tufts
Anatomy and Physiology Teacher
Michelle is a certified ERYT-300 hr yoga teacher and the owner of Love Probiotics. In 2007 Michelle graduated from Wilfred Laurier University with a degree in Sports Science, where she first discovered yoga and her passion for yoga anatomy. In 2008, Michelle moved to Australia, enrolled in her first 200-hour YTT, and began her teaching career. In 2010 Michelle moved to Lake Atitlan where she has facilitated and been a guest teacher for over 80 yoga trainings, with 6 separate yoga schools. When Michelle isn’t teaching or experimenting with fermentation projects you can likely find her playing in the garden with her one-year-old son at her home in Jaibalito, Lake Atitlan.

Chetan is a sound healer and medicine musician based in San Marcos, Lake Atitlan. He blends a variety of instruments from around the world, creating beautiful journeys through music that help others connect more deeply with themselves and come to a state of peace.

Paula Afonso
Integration Guide
Paula, originally from Portugal, brings a rich background in coordinating teams and hosting events to her current role as a holistic healer at the serene Lake Atitlán. After a global journey, she embraced her new home, dedicating herself to personal growth and holistic practices. Paula is a certified yoga teacher and massage therapist, skilled in Chi Nei Tsang and Intuitive Massage, which promote deep relaxation and integration.
Her qualifications extend to Sound Healing, Psychedelic Assisted Therapy, and Trauma-Related Relational Skills, with certifications from renowned institutions like Somatopia and Esalen. Recently certified as a Life Coach by MindValley, Paula’s mission is to nurture safety, visibility, and love, guiding individuals through their healing journeys with devotion and a heart-centered approach.

Izaias Sajvin Mendoza
Fire Ceremony Facilitator
Born in San Marcos La Laguna, Guatemala, Izaias’s journey from a young gardener to a respected Shaman was guided by a deep spiritual calling. Though he initially studied computers and accounting, a profound interest in diverse religions and a life-changing dream led him to uncover his grandfather’s legacy as a Shaman.
At 21, after marrying his wife, Izabel, Izaias was initiated as a Fire Shaman. Today, he is a dedicated and respected Shaman, leading Cacao and Fire Ceremonies and offering Mayan calendar readings. His work is deeply rooted in his ancestral traditions, and he is committed to serving his community by honoring and continuing the spiritual practices of his lineage.

Ana Izabel Pérez
Fire Ceremony Facilitator
Izabel’s journey began in humble circumstances, working to support her family in Guatemala. Meeting Izaias in San Marcos marked the start of her spiritual path, leading her to embrace her calling as a healer and Shamaness, dedicated to preserving and practicing her ancestral traditions.
Now a respected healer, Izabel specializes in traditional abdominal massage, Temazcal baths, and herbalism, with a strong focus on supporting pregnancies and empowering women. She was initiated as a Shamaness by Nan Candelaria Xitamul after years of personal healing and growth through Cacao Ceremonies.
